During the Sofia festival, the first meeting of the Kuliai Book Club will take place.
During it, we will discuss Grigorijes Kanovičius’ novel of authentic memories “Town Romance”. This story reveals how in 1920-1941 historical events changed the destinies of the inhabitants of Lithuanian towns – Jews, Lithuanians, Poles, Russians.
In the center of the book is the author’s own family, their fundamental values, and next to it is a colorful gallery of people from the whole town. An engaging journey awaits you, which is guaranteed by the style of the writer G. Kanovičius – an abundance of metaphors, biblical parallels, folk philosophy, a combination of humor and lyricism.
The meeting of the Kuliai book club will take place in the historical, chambered spaces of “Kultūros virenes”. “Kultūros virene” – authentic, reconstructed 18th century. a cultural heritage building in Kuliai, opening its doors to culture, art and meaningful community meetings during the Sofia Festival.
Everyone who wants to can participate in the club meeting – both after carefully reading the book and only remembering its essential ideas. Also those who do not have time to read yet, but would like to participate in a cozy conversation about the 20th century described in the book. the twists and turns of history and people’s destinies.
